CROWN CAPPING GUIDE

How to Choose a Crown Capper

A crown capper presses and crimps a metal crown closure around the lip of a compatible bottle neck, creating a secure seal for beer, soda, sparkling water and other beverages.

The correct machine depends on cap specification, bottle-neck finish, production speed and automation level. Bottle and cap samples should be tested to confirm crimping quality, sealing consistency and bottle stability.

Information Needed for Selection

01 Crown cap diameter and cap specification
02 Bottle photos, height and neck-finish dimensions
03 Target production speed in bottles per minute
04 Standalone operation or bottling-line integration

AUTOMATION LEVELS

Crown Capping Machine Configurations

Choose the automation level according to batch size, production speed and operator involvement.

01 · SMALL BATCH

Manual Crown Cappers

Economical hand-operated equipment for home brewing, laboratory trials, sampling and low-volume production.

02 · MEDIUM OUTPUT

Pneumatic Crown Cappers

The operator positions the bottle and cap while pneumatic pressure completes crimping with improved consistency.

03 · CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION

Automatic Crown Cappers

Integrates bottle conveying, cap feeding, positioning and capping for continuous beverage production.

SELECTION FACTORS

What Determines the Machine Configuration?

Cap & Neck Finish

Crown diameter, skirt profile and bottle-neck finish determine the capping bell and crimping geometry.

Bottle Stability

Bottle height, diameter and strength affect positioning, lifting support and permitted capping pressure.

Output & Feeding

Higher speeds may require automatic cap sorting, feeding and continuous conveying.

CAPPING PROCESS

How Crown Capping Works

The cap is aligned above the bottle neck and pressed by a shaped capping bell. Its skirt is crimped around the bottle lip to compress the liner and form a secure beverage seal.

STEP 01 Position the bottle and crown cap
STEP 02 Apply controlled downward pressure
STEP 03 Crimp the skirt around the bottle lip

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Crown Capper FAQs

Can one capper handle different bottle heights?

Many machines allow capping-head height adjustment. Different bottle diameters or neck finishes may require additional guides or another capping bell.

Can crown cappers work with plastic bottles?

Crown closures are normally used with glass bottles engineered for crown-cap neck finishes. Compatibility should be verified from the bottle specification.

What is the difference from screw capping?

A crown capper crimps a metal skirt around the bottle lip. A screw capper rotates a threaded closure onto a threaded bottle neck.

Can it connect to a beer filling line?

Yes. Automatic crown cappers can integrate with rinsing, carbonated filling, conveying, labeling and collection equipment.

Why are bottle and cap samples recommended?

Samples allow the capping bell, crimp profile, pressure and finished sealing quality to be tested before the machine is confirmed.

Is compressed air required?

Pneumatic models require an external air supply. Manual machines do not, while automatic-machine requirements depend on the selected configuration.
