VACUUM PACKAGING GUIDE

Vacuum Packaging Systems for Bags, Trays and Cans

Vacuum sealing equipment removes air from a package before closing it. Depending on the machine configuration, the process may also include gas flushing, skin-film application, product compression, can seaming or continuous automatic bag handling.

MAIN MACHINE TYPES

Choose the Right Vacuum Sealing System

Chamber size, package structure and automation requirements determine which type of vacuum equipment is suitable.

01

Chamber Vacuum Sealer

Places the complete bag inside a chamber before vacuum extraction and heat sealing.

Suitable for Meat, seafood, cheese, dried food and industrial parts
02

External Suction Vacuum Sealer

Uses an external nozzle to extract air from bags that may be too large for a conventional chamber.

Suitable for Bulk bags, powders, granules, rice and industrial products
03

Continuous Vacuum Sealer

Combines conveyor transfer, vacuum extraction and sealing for repeated or continuous packaging.

Suitable for Medium-output bag packaging and production line operation
04

Vacuum Skin Packaging

Forms heated skin film closely around the product and tray or backing board.

Suitable for Fresh meat, seafood, cheese and retail display products
05

Automatic Rotary Vacuum Packaging

Feeds premade bags through filling, vacuuming and sealing stations for continuous automated production.

Suitable for Food, powders, granules and compatible premade pouches
06

Vacuum Can Sealing

Removes air from rigid cans and may introduce nitrogen before applying or seaming the lid.

Suitable for Coffee, milk powder, nuts, canned food and dry products

Typical Vacuum Sealing Process

01

Product Loading

Place the product inside the bag, tray or container.

02

Package Positioning

Position the opening at the chamber or sealing station.

03

Air Extraction

Remove air according to the configured vacuum cycle.

04

Optional Gas Flushing

Introduce configured protective gas where required.

05

Package Sealing

Heat-seal the bag or apply the configured container closure.

06

Discharge & Inspection

Release and check the finished vacuum package.

SELECT BY PACKAGE

Match the Vacuum Machine to the Package

01

Flexible Vacuum Bags

Use chamber, double-chamber or continuous vacuum sealers according to bag size and production output.

02

Large Bulk Bags

External suction machines avoid the dimensional limits of a conventional vacuum chamber.

03

Skin Packs & Trays

Vacuum skin packaging requires compatible upper film, tray or backing board and product height.

04

Rigid Cans

Can applications require compatible lids, vacuum chambers and seaming or pressing mechanisms.

MACHINE SELECTION GUIDE

How to Choose a Vacuum Sealing Machine

Confirm the product, package and required vacuum process before selecting the machine structure.

01

Define the Product

Confirm whether the product is solid, liquid-containing, powder, granule, sharp-edged or easily compressed.

02

Provide Package Dimensions

Supply bag, tray or can dimensions and the maximum dimensions after the product has been loaded.

03

Confirm Packaging Material

Provide the bag or film structure, thickness, sealing layer and heat-sealing requirements.

04

Select the Vacuum Process

Confirm vacuum-only, vacuum and gas flushing, skin packaging, compression or vacuum can sealing.

05

Set Production Output

Required packs per minute determine whether a single chamber, double chamber or continuous automatic system is suitable.

06

Check Cleaning Requirements

Food applications may require stainless-steel construction, removable components and easy-clean working surfaces.

PROCESS OPTIONS

Vacuum, Gas Flushing or Skin Packaging?

01

Vacuum Only

Removes air before heat sealing

  • Common for flexible vacuum bags
  • Compact package appearance
  • Suitable for compatible solid products
  • Available in multiple chamber sizes
02

Vacuum & Gas Flushing

Removes air and introduces configured gas

  • Used for suitable oxidation-sensitive products
  • May reduce package compression
  • Requires a suitable gas supply
  • Package structure must retain the gas
03

Vacuum Skin Packaging

Forms film closely around the product

  • Strong retail presentation
  • Helps restrict product movement
  • Requires compatible skin film and tray
  • Product height affects configuration

PACKAGING QUALITY

Factors That Affect Vacuum Sealing Results

01

Vacuum Level

The required vacuum level depends on the product, package and acceptable compression.

02

Sealing Temperature

Temperature, time and pressure must match the heat-sealing layer and material thickness.

03

Seal Area Cleanliness

Oil, liquid, powder or product residue around the bag opening can reduce seal consistency.

04

Package Compatibility

The bag, film, tray or can must be designed for the selected vacuum and sealing process.

Vacuum Sealing Machine FAQ

What is the difference between chamber and external vacuum sealing?

A chamber machine places the complete package inside the vacuum chamber. An external suction machine extracts air through a nozzle and is more suitable for some oversized bags.

Should I choose a single or double chamber machine?

Single-chamber machines suit smaller production. Double-chamber equipment allows an operator to load one chamber while the other completes its vacuum cycle.

Can liquids be vacuum sealed?

Some liquid-containing products can be packaged using suitable chamber configurations and operating controls. Product behavior should be tested because liquids may move during air extraction.

Can nitrogen flushing be added?

Gas flushing can be configured on suitable machines. The gas, package material, target process and required residual oxygen should be confirmed.

Why does a vacuum bag lose vacuum after sealing?

Possible causes include a contaminated seal, unsuitable material, insufficient sealing parameters, bag damage or product edges puncturing the package.

Can vacuum equipment connect to an automatic line?

Yes. Bag feeding, filling, vacuuming, gas flushing, sealing, coding, inspection and collection can be integrated according to the packaging process.
