Flexible Bag Filling Systems

Bag-in-Box Filling for Flexible Bulk Packaging

A Bag-in-Box package combines a flexible inner bag with a tap, valve or spout and an outer supporting carton. The filling system must match the bag opening, closure structure, product properties, filling volume, hygiene requirements and required production capacity.

01

Semi-Automatic BIB Fillers

Operators position the bag and manage some closure-handling steps while the machine completes the programmed filling cycle. Suitable for flexible, lower-output production.

02

Automatic BIB Fillers

Integrate bag positioning, controlled filling and compatible closure-handling functions to reduce manual operation and support continuous production.

03

Aseptic BIB Filling Systems

Selected systems combine vacuum extraction, steam treatment and a controlled filling environment for compatible pre-sterilized bags and processed products.

04

Spout Sealing Equipment

Pneumatic or powered sealing equipment assists with pressing compatible taps, caps or spouts into the required closing position.

Typical Bag-in-Box Filling Process

01 Bag Positioning The empty flexible bag is placed at the filling station
02 Tap or Cap Removal The closure is removed or opened for the filling cycle
03 Vacuum or Gas Control Optional air removal or protective-gas treatment is performed
04 Controlled Filling The programmed volume or weight is dispensed into the bag
05 Closure & Boxing The tap is reseated before the filled bag enters its carton

Choosing a Bag-in-Box Filler

Flexible Production

Semi-Automatic Filling

Suitable when production volume is moderate, several bag formats are used or manual bag loading and closure handling are acceptable.

Higher Output

Automatic Filling

Suitable when consistent cycle control, reduced manual handling and integration with conveyors or downstream boxing are required.

Hygiene-Controlled Products

Aseptic Filling

Suitable for compatible processed products and pre-sterilized bags when the complete upstream process, filling environment and packaging system are designed for aseptic operation.

Standard and Aseptic BIB Filling

Selection Factor Standard BIB Filling Aseptic BIB Filling
Typical Operation Fills compatible products under a conventional hygienic filling process. Uses a controlled process designed around sterilized product, packaging and filling conditions.
Bag Requirements Compatible flexible bag, fitment and closure matched to the filling head. Compatible pre-sterilized aseptic bag and fitment matched to the filling chamber.
Optional Functions Vacuum extraction, gas flushing and controlled filling may be configured. May include vacuum, steam barrier, sterilization control and protective-gas functions.
Process Requirement Depends on product stability, storage conditions and required shelf life. Requires validation of the complete product preparation, bag, filler and hygiene process.

Bag-in-Box Filling Machine FAQ

What is a Bag-in-Box filling machine?

It is a machine designed to fill flexible bags fitted with a tap, valve or spout. After filling and closing, the flexible bag is normally placed inside a supporting carton or other outer container.

What bag sizes can be filled?

The filling range depends on the selected model, filling head and product. Selected ZONESUN systems can be configured for common formats within approximately 2–25 litres, while other requirements should be confirmed separately.

What is the difference between BIB and spout-pouch filling?

A Bag-in-Box package normally uses a larger flexible bag placed inside a carton. A retail spout pouch is generally displayed and used without a supporting box. Their bag handling and closure systems may differ.

Can viscous products be filled into BIB bags?

Compatible sauces, syrups and concentrates may be filled, but the pump, pipe diameter, valve, filling nozzle and product-supply system must match the viscosity and any contained particles.

Why is vacuum used before filling?

Vacuum can remove part of the air inside an empty bag before the product enters. Whether it is required depends on the product, package, oxidation sensitivity and intended filling process.

Can nitrogen be added during BIB filling?

A compatible machine may be configured for protective-gas flushing. Gas type, pressure, timing and residual-oxygen requirements should be determined according to the product and packaging process.

Is a Bag-in-Box filler automatically aseptic?

No. Standard hygienic BIB filling and aseptic BIB filling are different processes. Aseptic production requires suitable equipment, sterilized product and packaging, controlled transfer and validated operating procedures.

What information is needed to select a machine?

Provide the product, viscosity, particle content, filling volume, bag and fitment samples, required speed, expected shelf life, processing temperature, hygiene requirements and whether vacuum, gas flushing or aseptic filling is required.
